CNC Machinist
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for a 1-year contract opportunity in Houston, TX 77073, paying $22/hour. This role supports the Aero Shop and Machine Shop by operating large CNC and manual lathes, VTLs, and milling machines while holding tight tolerances to meet OEM requirements and specifications. The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of machining experience, strong blueprint reading skills, CNC programming expertise, and the ability to machine gas turbine, steam turbine, and aero components with precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and promote a strong safety culture with a safe-to-start mindset
- Operate CNC and manual lathes, VTLs, and milling machines
- Align large rotors and gas components within tight tolerances for machining, grinding, and runout corrections
- Program CNC machines and calculate feed rates, speeds, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut
- Read and interpret OEM drawings, REIs, work instructions, digital routers, and blueprints
- Apply working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Monitor machine operations, identify out-of-tolerance conditions, and adjust controls as needed
- Select and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and materials for machining operations
- Support rotor and machine shop operations based on customer requirements
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 10+ years of related machining experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Advanced/expert skills in:
- Turning OD s and ID s
- Grinding and burnishing
- CNC mills and CNC lathes (including NC feed rate calculations)
- Manual mills, manual lathes, and manual VTLs
- Ability to operate both CNC and manual machines
- Strong understanding of algebra, geometry, and machining calculations
- Experience in gas turbine repair (HSPT, GE10s, FR3, FR5, FR6, F7) and rotor/component machining is a plus
