CNC Machinist
Job Description
We are currently hiring an experienced CNC Machinist to join our team in Houston, TX 77073. This is a 12-month contract position offering $25.00/hour, with the potential to transition into a temp-to-hire opportunity based on business needs and performance. This role is ideal for a skilled machinist with experience operating both CNC and manual machining equipment in a precision manufacturing environment.
Schedule
- Monday Friday, 6: 00 AM 2: 30 PM (Overtime as needed)
Main Responsibilities
As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for:
- Setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathes, VTLs, milling machines, and manual machining equipment.
- Machining large rotors, gas components, cases, aero components, and other precision parts.
- Aligning parts within tight tolerances for machining, grinding, and runout corrections.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, OEM drawings, schematics, work instructions, and digital routers.
- Applying GD&T principles to ensure machining accuracy and quality.
- Calculating and adjusting machining parameters, including speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and depth of cut.
- Monitoring machine operations, making adjustments, and troubleshooting issues to maintain quality standards.
- Selecting and securing fixtures, cutting tools, and materials for machining operations.
- Supporting both Rotor Shop and Machine Shop operations based on production needs.
- Following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe, clean work environment.
Job Qualifications
Successful candidates will have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of related machining experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience operating both CNC and manual machining equipment, including:
- CNC Mills
- CNC Lathes
- NC Machines
- Manual Mills
- Manual Lathes
- Manual Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs)
- Advanced machining experience with:
- OD and ID turning
- Grinding and burnishing
- Feed rate calculations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and basic algebra/geometry.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with a team.
- English proficiency required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience machining gas turbine components, including HSPT, GE10, Frame 3, Frame 5, Frame 6, and Frame 7 components.
- Manufacturing, Industrial, or Oil & Gas industry experience.
- CNC certifications are a plus.
Work Environment
- Workshop-based position
- No travel required
- No remote or hybrid work available
- Standing for extended periods and working overtime as needed
