We are looking for Technical Writer to work onsite in Westminster, CO (3months contract) to create simple, direct, text- and graphics-based quick start guides and user guides applying the principles of minimalism and task-based, topic-based authoring. Requires a First Level University degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science or related technical / communications field  and minimum of 6+ years related experience, submit your resume now!




The contract technical writer will be responsible for helping migrate DITA XML content from SDL Tridion 14 to SDL Tridion 13. Current and extensive knowledge of DITA XML, oXygen XML Author, and SDL Tridion is required.




General Job Description (Day to Day):
  • Work with a cross-functional team of local and remote subject matter experts (system and sales engineers; UX designers, product, QA, and support engineers; program and product managers) to develop and implement documentation plans for headset projects.
  • Create simple, direct, text- and graphics-based quick start guides and user guides applying the principles of minimalism and task-based, topic-based authoring.
  • For text-based content, you will work in a structured authoring environment of DITA/XML to create clear and direct, single-sourced, and reusable content
  • For graphics-based content, you will work in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to optimize illustrations and content layout for usability while minimizing page count.
  • All content must comply with Poly Marketing brand guidelines and Poly Tech Comm Group standards/style guides.
  • All content must meet ADA/Section 508 accessibility requirements
  • Maintain the quality and consistency of text and graphic assets through use of a Content Management Systems (CMS).




Job Duties:
  • Analyzes customer information requirements and product certifications to define technical content strategy and plan.
  • Designs and develops written and/or visual product-related information, hard copy, web - (e.G., user/configuration/troubleshooting guides), and online information (interactive demos, help systems) integrated into product, for a variety of audiences (end user, system administrators, internal support engineers, product developers, training developers).
  • Codes, builds, compiles, and tests online information and/or sets-up, loads and tests systems hardware to create information deliverables and provide feedback on ease of use and user interfaces to product development.
  • As customer advocate, helps define/refine product requirements.
  • Develops standards and style documents and templates, scripts, style sheets, and script and graphic libraries to ensure common look and feel.
  • Interfaces with cross-functional areas as a member of the product development team, such as marketing, test, support, and manufacturing.




Education and Experience:
  • Typically a First Level University degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science or related technical/communications field
  • Minimum of 6+ years related experience or an Advanced University degree and minimum of 4-6 years of experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize a variety of tools and technologies to support multiple technologies.
  • Represents company in professional associations, e.G., STC, ASM-SIGDOC, IEEE, technology standards committees such as DocBook Standards Committee.
  • Five- to eight-years of experience designing and creating text and graphical technical documentation for consumer hardware and software products, preferably for consumer telecommunication devices.
  • Skilled at using standard technical writing and DITA XML tools (such as Oxygen Author, SDL Tridion, and Adobe Acrobat Pro) and standard office tools (MS Office-based)
  • Skilled at using graphic design tools (such as Adobe InDesign and Illustrator).
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and professional energy and excellence, particularly when working with engineering, product management, and manufacturing partners.
  • Self-directed with strong problem-solving skills that allow for execution of the job functions without clearly defined specifications and with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Adherence to generally accepted authoring procedures including conformance to corporate style guide, content development and technical review, editorial review, publishing to HTML and PDF, etc.
  • Familiarity with localization processes and best practices.
