Analytical Water Chemist (Lab technician)
Job Description
Rightstone is looking for an Analytical Water Chemist in Shafter, CA. The pay rate is $20/hr. For a 12-month contract, with a strong potential for renewal and the opportunity for temp-to-hire. In this role, you will conduct routine chemical and physical analysis of production of fluids and solids under general supervision. You will be responsible for the full sample lifecycle from receiving and logging internal samples to performing complex wet chemical tests and assisting with the interpretation of results for high-level technical support.
Work Schedule: Mon Fri, 7: 30 AM-4: 00 PM, weekends and overtime as needed
What you will do:
- Sample Management: Receive and log in samples from internal customers, utilizing LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) to track progress and enter data.
- Testing & Analysis: Perform mechanical and wet chemical tests, including sample preparation and the use of advanced equipment like ICP, IC, XRD, XRF, and various handheld meters.
- Reporting: Assist technical support personnel in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting results for both internal and external clients.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Handle special projects as assigned and manage the disposal of satellite waste (~30 lbs.) in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Quality Control: Ensure all work is detail-oriented and mistake-free while adhering strictly to laboratory safety protocols.
What we are looking for:
- Education: A bachelor's degree in chemistry is preferred (especially for candidates without prior professional lab experience). Minimum of 2 3 years of lab experience in lieu of a degree.
- Technical Skills: Solid understanding of proper laboratory testing techniques, safety guidelines, and familiarity with LIMS systems.
- Computer Literacy: Strong PC skills with experience creating spreadsheets and detailed technical reports.
- Soft Skills: Must be dependable, punctual, and a strong team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a noisy environment with constant movement and lift up to 30 lbs. Familiarity with hazardous waste disposal is a plus.
